Gables Estate
Contemporary Mediterranean
Elegant drama. We had quite the canvas to work with: a traditional Mediterranean waterfront home on a corner lot in the exclusive Gable Estates Community. Built by the client 15 years prior, our vision was to create a fresher, more modern living space while maintaining the original architectural details but not letting it dictate a cliched design. To achieve this a complete renovation was in order. Walls were painted white to accentuate the curves, lines, and archways of the home’s dramatic foyer which we amplified.
We went with an espresso and white marble checkered floor using oversized parallelogram shaped tiles to create an even bigger wow moment as you walked through the front door, adding more glamour to the spectacular winding staircase and white lacquered paneled walls that lead up to the second floor. We also enlarged the living room by incorporating part of the original terrace to make it more proportional to the open two-story space.
White was selected as the primary color leading you into each of the living areas and rooms allowing the 26 foot high vaulted ceilings, oversized windows, and natural light to be our guide as we conceptualized the look and feel of each space. Pale greys and blues were chosen for many of the fabrics and textiles, while rich wood furnishings and accents added warmth and gravitas. The client also gave us the freedom to be playful. Jungle palm wallpaper was selected for one of the guest bathrooms, an homage to the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel, while a marbled pink wallpaper made for the perfect backdrop for the daughter’s room. Each space has a distinct personality, without competing with the natural design flow of the entire home.
